Netflix is famous for bringing out hidden gems that would otherwise have gone unnoticed but come july 2024 it will not be an exception. This time it will be the turn of a polish adult animated historical movie called ‘The Peasants’ (Chłopi) which will be available in USA starting on 11th July.
Introduction of ‘The Peasants’
Get ready to experience the tough times of 19th-century Poland with the Netflix released “The Peasants.” Which was once an outstanding novel by Władysław Reymont who won the Nobel Prize for Literature, this new Netflix film is an amazing animated drama that doesn’t follow fairy tale patterns. It gives us a picture of what life was for peasants in those days that’s different from ordinary romantic stories about castles or knights; their love sprung up among hard work done with hands, boiling disputes and desire to stay alive at all costs.

Agna feels she is caught up in a mixture of wants and necessity when she is obligated to join in marriage with Boryna who is an aging wealthy farmer however he is not poor among other things, he is affluent. These dynamics are also influenced by rumors and jealousy that crop up among residents living next to her, but on the other hand she is determined enough to establish herself and overcome class difference.

“The lower classes” gives a nice adventure visually and emotionally which tells us a little about the past where people wanted to break tradition.
After debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival late last year, the movie secured distribution by Sony Pictures Classics in the United States and enjoyed a theatrical release in Poland.

The movie is directed by DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman, and employs a painted animation technique to adapt the Nobel prize-winning novel by Władysław Reymont.

In the late 19th century Polish village, The Peasants is a book about Jagna, a resolute young womanchooses for herself navigating through life. Despite being surrounded by gossips, perpetual enmities, and entrenched male dominance, she attempts to follow an individual way. Now caught up in the aspirations of the village’s richest man, the next in line to his property, and various significant males around her, the refusal by Jagna becomes a fatal confrontation with her society.

The movie will be released on Netflix in the United States through Sony. In 2021, Netflix signed an agreement with Sony Pictures whereby it gained access to their entire theatrical offering, plus a number of its affiliated entities, for periods of eighteen months.
The agreement between Netflix in the United States and Sony Pictures Classics featuring several Sony Pictures Classics titles of the last few years has led to inclusion of Shortcomings, The Miracle Club, Freud’s Last Session and Living in The Son amongst others.
