“Going back to April 2021, news broke that Netflix had teamed up with Peyo Company to deliver both the beloved classic Smurfs series and an all-new 3D animated Smurfs series to its streaming platform.”
“The debut of the first season of The Smurfs on Nickelodeon in the United States, along with other local distributors globally, was followed by Netflix securing worldwide rights throughout 2023. The US audience enjoyed all 52 episodes starting May 1st. While some regions experienced a slight delay, eventually, every Netflix region began streaming the new season.”
“It’s been just over a year since Season 1 came out and now, after airing it through Nickelodeon back then, Netflix is set to release Season 2 on July 18th, 2022. The format for this season will mirror what was done with its predecessor – it shall also have 52 episodes. In America alone season two will air by June 30th; whereas internationally it will start showing around that time too. Confirmation about its availability came from among things that would be appearing on Netflix’s preliminary list scheduled to appear in June 2024.”
And that’s not all! Peyo Company made it official at the Annecy Film Festival: fans can look forward to not just a third but also a fourth season!
The fans can expect season three soon. Another fifty-two episodes will be aired on Nickelodeon during the summer of 2024 and it is expected to be on Netflix at some point having taken into account past trends.
Moreover, we know Peep’s fourth season is in pre-development. A Peyo Company’s spokesperson has told What’s on Netflix that the third and the fourth season will find their way to the streaming site sooner or later but they were unable to give an exact date when it would actually happen.
In February 2025, Peyó Company will collaborate with Paramount Pictures on a Smurfs movie that will appear in cinemas. Furthermore, the company is bringing back characters from Johan & Peebleit and Benny Breakiron comic books through modern animation by creating two new projects: ‘The Tales of Johan & Peebleit’ and ‘Benny Breakiron.’

In the upcoming days at the Annecy Film Festival, Netflix will spotlight its array of forthcoming animated releases. Today, we received a fresh glimpse of Arcane season 2, with several other titles set to be featured, such as Spellbound, That Christmas, The Twits, Twilight of the Gods, and the highly anticipated Wallace & Gromit film.
