Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest to feature in Netflix movie adaptation of ‘My Oxford Year’

Netflix has joined forces with Sofia Carson on a new romantic film where they will be co-stars along with Corey Mylchreest. The shooting of this movie is set to start in the UK during the next month; so far there are some information about it.

Based on Julia Whelan’s acclaimed novel ‘My Oxford Year,’ originally published in April 2018, the upcoming film adaptation was initially scripted by Allison Burnett, with recent revisions by Savion Einstein.

The feature will be directed by Iain Morris, known for his contributions to the three series of The Inbetweeners and the two films that followed.

Here is the official synopsis for the upcoming film:

Soon after Anna, a driven young lady from the United States, goes to Oxford University to achieve an ambition she has harboured since she was a child, she finds herself in a fix as a result of a sweet and bitingly sharp resident whose life, like her own, takes an entirely new turn.

A few years ago, plans were underway to create a movie version that has not been released. Although it was first announced in 2015, Temple Hill and ScreenGems who are the producers decided to call this movie “Oxford.” The main actors cast for this movie were Melissa Benoist and Sam Heughan. The screenplay was to be done by Allison Burnett while Gordon Anderson was supposed to be its director. Yet developments on this project ceased before it went any further than that hence no film was made under this title. However, Netflix bought the film rights for the same in 2021.

This is the fifth important film that Sofia Carson has produced in association with Netflix. In 2020 she released “Feel the Beat” that was followed by the acclaimed Purple Hearts in 2022. The coming one is Carry-On where both Jason Bateman and Taron Egerton are featured alongside her. Recently, Carson just wrapped up shooting a romantic comedy also under Netflix production called “The Life List.”

Corey Mylchreest has also made a notable presence on Netflix, having embodied the character of Bound King George in “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” and been featured in Netflix’s “The Sandman.

The feature film is being produced by Temple Hill Entertainment; the production team is being lead by Laura Quicksilver and George Berman as producers, while Caroline Levy is the executive producer of the film. Temple Hill Entertainment worked with Netflix in the past for projects like “We Have a Ghost” and “Fatherhood
